Hugh Dillon Promises The Final Season Of 'Flashpoint' Is Explosive
by: Lindsay Zier-Vogel Date: 9/20/2012
With the premiere of the fifth season of “Flashpoint” on deck, actor Hugh Dillon promises “an explosive season.”
“In many ways I look at it like rock and roll,” says the actor who plays Team One’s lead sniper, Ed Lane. “We started strongly, we’ve had a great middle and this last season is exceptional just in terms of the characters and our writers and our great producers, but also really in what we get to do.”
The fifth and final season of “Flashpoint” premieres on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CTV.
At the CTV Upfront in May, all of the actors agreed that camaraderie on screen and on set has made the experience of shooting 75 episodes of the hit cop show an unforgettable experience.
“We started off as a team . . . but after five years you can’t pretend that kind of connection,” adds Sergio Di Zio who plays Spike Scarlatti, explosives and tactical toys expert.
The connection Team One has on screen transcends the limits of the set, he promises. “It sounds kind of corny but it’s love.”
“It’s just amazing to be part of something that I’m so proud of from the beginning to the end,” says Amy Jo Johnson, who plays Jules Callaghan, secondary negotiator and rappelling expert. “I didn’t know we could have so much fun while we were filming and I’ve just really enjoyed the entire ride.”
As the final season kicks off, executive producer Anne Marie La Traverse promises even more character development over the last 13 episodes.
“It’s a procedural but it also allows the actors to show emotions and show a whole range of colours that aren’t always available to actors in a lot of procedural shows,” she says.
“Our head writers have been able to write to the (lead) characters and explore new facets of them that we didn’t really even know existed in the first season,” she says.
And though members of the SRU might be revealing new sides of themselves this season, the first episode of Season 5 harkens back to the very first episode ever.
In the Season 5 premiere, Team One tears through the city in pursuit of James Mitchell, an armed and volatile man hunting for his ex-wife Michelle.
James’ frantic daughter May fills the team in on the history of violence and abuse that she and her mother have escaped. The team corners James on a hotel rooftop and in a shocking turn of events (reminiscent of the very first episode where Ed took a tough shot and ended up killing a hostage taker), Ed once again has to take a shot he isn’t prepared for.
Talk about starting the final season with a bang…
